Could you add "Homestead"  as it's much smaller than a farm, yet still using

To insulation, could you add "Compost"

Concervation Potential - We'll be using our site for International Permaculture Certification Courses and Permaculture Workshops, including biogas.  Not sure how that could be noted or if we can select multiple options.

Some of us are using effluent in our research as an alternative to the mined minerals.  Not sure how that can fit into any options, but would like that out there somehow.

Address

For some of us, the address requirement is a bit too close...  Folks want someone to contact, having City/State/Province/Territory/etc., and a person to contact works at a certain privacy level, but a physical address is more than I want to share, for multiple reasons.  For starters, this isn't my permanent residence, just a rental along the way, for another, it leaves open the possibility of others showing up, unannounced and that could be dangerous, on a number of levels.

I agree about privacy. But

I agree about privacy. But thats why your address isn't shared. There is a point on the map but no address.

Point on the map

That point still gives the map exact location for that address, with street.  A simple cross-check with Google maps and I can pull up a street-view of almost any house in the US, or much of Europe, as well as an aerial, or satellite view for much of the globe...  For purposes of finding somebody nearby, City is close enough, then the physical address and details can be between individuals.

One person in the group, on Facebook, has already blocked several others, over minor differences of opinion.  If those types get much more psychotic, they could use their member status to do real harm.  What screaning is there, to keep murderers, rapists and child-molesters out of the group?  Even complete background checks still allow murderers to purchase firearms, in many cases.

Sure, I'm playing "Devil's Advocate", on this, and I'm not saying it will happen, but if COULD happen.  Even once would be too much.  At least it accepted "Somewhere" on mine, but I shouldn't have had to find an alternative for that space, since I didn't want to reveal that information.  It should be optional.

Hi Jeff,

Hi Jeff,

see your point.

What about 2 different map: one for anonymous visitors and one for our members? The map for members is accurate down to the street - those for guests only down to city. I could also make it possible to disable the zoom level - makes it possible that anonymous simple could not zoom down to the street only to the city

I'm in favour for the zoom level restriction.

What do you think?

One by city for visitors is fine

I think 1 by city for visitors is fine, but even for members, street address should be optional.  I seem to be the one person, at least the one speaking up, against requiring a street address, so far.  Those that want to add their street address should be able to, but I still believe that it should be up to the member, not the mapping program.  I have no problem releasing my email address, so that I can be contacted more directly, but even that should be optional, there may be some that don't, at which point, routing a 'please contact' kind of note may also be an option.  I'm not very computer-literate.  I know what I've run into and what my preferrences are.  I can't speak for everyone else.  Maybe get a concensus on it, in the FB group?  As far as I know, the FB group is the primary source for the map, anyway, at least for now.

hmm, you have to put in a address - but this necessarly must be yours. The address pin works in a two stage process - you put in the digesters location and then move the hand on the map below the address field. You can pretty much pin it where every you want to.

About E-Mail-Addresses - We don't publish e-mail addresses. You can be contacted by the a contact form every member has on the profiles "contact tab". You can disable this feature as well as receiving e-mails from the site if someone posts a new comment you have subscribed to.

Address

IIRC, Line 1 took "Somewhere" as an address.  There is a pin on the map, but I didn't bother with the pin, either.  I have no problem with that, in and of itself, as long as it remains a valid solution.  I just think that City and State/Territory and Nation should be close enough, unless someone WANTS to disclose their physical address.  I understand this is the Information-Age, but I still believe that making the Street Address purely voluntary is more appropriate.  For general information, City and State should be close enough.  Anyone that wants to 'see' a digester should be contacting the operator, but, with a physical address, even if only available to members, opens up the possibility of misusing the information.

Exact Location

We do have one high profile family that may not want their exact location posted.  But for the most part, anybody can find any one of us if they really want to.  Me being one who likes to remain hidden, I can see that I can be found.  I block some of my stuff too because of a very frightening experience with a stalker.  A real life mentally ill stalker that I've been face to face with.  So yeah, I hear Jeff's side of it real well.

Janice, all that is public available

Janice, all that is public available is your username. Your full name which is at My Account > Edit -> Full name is just for admins. It is something with no use at the moment. In the beginnig we tought that it would be better to know everyone by real name. But we realized that this is not possible with a community where most of its content is public...
